It is not often that we publish a memorial for one of our commenters, but anyone who has been a regular user of the blog for at least a year or two will remember David Horry, who posted as Horryd while we were on LiveJournal, and as Meldrew on the current site.

An Online Saturday Times Quick Cryptic?
Many thanks to all who responded to the post about this last week. I’ve now had a reply from Mick…
Times Saturday Quick Cryptics?
At the recent Sloggers and Betters event in York I had a chat with Mick Hodgkin, the Times Puzzles Editor. We talked about the lack of a Quick Cryptic Crossword on a Saturday and he explained the problem was one of space. But he asked a question, “Would people be happy if there was a Saturday Quick Cryptic which was only available online?” So what do you think? Answers as comments to this post please. [Update 23/11 : I have now emailed Mick and included a link to this post and its responses].

Newsflash: Lexico
I just found this announcement at Lexico. My first reaction is that it’s bad news. What do you think?
Attention Mephisto Solvers!
As you maybe have noticed, The Times is having a little difficulty with their Mephisto puzzles. Due to an error, Mephisto 3223 by Don Manley was posted to both the Crossword Club and The Times online site, while the correct puzzle, Mephisto 3222, was published in the physical newspaper.
Jumbo
For those who may not know already, today is a Bank Holiday in the UK and there is a Cryptic Jumbo #1559 available. I’m not sure if we will get another one for tomorrow’s Platinum Jubilee so look out for it just in case.
