Month: June 2022
Times Cryptic Jumbo 1561 – light the blue touch paper
I found parts of this quite tricky. Definitely a two pipe problem, especially towards the bottom where I had to apply my sleuthing skills diligently.
Times Cryptic No 28320 – Saturday, 18 June 2022. Less fast, more fraught
I struggled a bit with this, although I think it was good clueing rather than obscurity that troubled me. I didn’t know the worm at 1dn, though it may be familiar in Britain. I eventually dredged up the tea at 16 dn – luckily, since I’d never heard of the battle! The wordplay of 5dn was pretty.
Times 28,325: A Blog Told By An Idiot, Full Of Sound And Fury, Signifying Nothing
Not tremendously difficult wordplay-wise, but with a lot of interesting GK in it: with Ray Charles, Cole Porter, Frank Sinatra, Jason Robard and A.J. Cronin all making an appearance, we’d have quite an interesting dinner … Read more “Times 28,325: A Blog Told By An Idiot, Full Of Sound And Fury, Signifying Nothing”
Quick Cryptic 2164 by Corelli
Medium difficulty I would say, with some write-ins as well as chewier ones.
Times Quick Cryptic No 2163 by Teazel
Another great puzzle from Teazel which took me 11 minutes to crack, a reasonably good time for me.
Times 28324 – waiter, there’s an amino acid in my soup
Time taken: 11:58. I found this one tricky, though a look at some of the times on the leaderboard so far indicate I may have had more difficulty than the usual early solvers. I found … Read more “Times 28324 – waiter, there’s an amino acid in my soup”
Times Quick Cryptic No 2162 by Tracy
5:17, reflecting a gentler affair, by my standards. Last one in was 1 across, where I shewed my ignorance of British royalty (sorry to say). No eyebrow raises for any of these clues, which are very polished and well put together.
Times 28323 – someone who herds pottery perhaps.
Nothing too alarming in this gentle offering, one insect I’d never heard of but the wordplay was clear enough.
Times Cryptic 28322
Solving time: 42 minutes. 9ac and 10dn had me wondering if today’s setter might be Oink.
