Times Saturday Quick Cryptics?

At the recent Sloggers and Betters event in York I had a chat with Mick Hodgkin, the Times Puzzles Editor. We talked about the lack of a Quick Cryptic Crossword on a Saturday and he explained the problem was one of space. But he asked a question, “Would people be happy if there was a Saturday Quick Cryptic which was only available online?” So what do you think? Answers as comments to this post please. [Update 23/11 : I have now emailed Mick and included a link to this post and its responses].

  1. Our Saturday puzzle is a 15 x 15 from earlier in the week, choosing one with a low Snitch rating. We find this a good challenge and helps with our progress up the crossword solving ladder.

  2. Yes, provided it can be accessed through the iPad Puzzles section, which is how I access the current offering

  3. My husband and I do the QC in the newspaper after we have read the paper. We do now subscribe so that we get tokens to pick up the paper and get the print version a bit cheaper but I am not sure what online access we have. I think there is some but I don’t usually bother with it. I am not sure how I would access an online version. It would be ok if I could print it out. I print out the weekend ones our kind setters here make up for us.

  4. As a “pencil & paper” solver, I’ve no objection to an online Saturday QC. Always willing to try something new! Hopefully it wouldn’t mean the end of the fortnightly offering though?

  5. Would prefer a paper copy. Although the Jumbo is sometimes doable, it takes an awful lot of time. Would need clear instructions as to how to find and interact with an on-line version.

  6. I would like a Saturday QC, although I’d print it out because I like having a break from the screen and I find it more enjoyable to do on paper.

  7. Yes please. My wife usually does it and I help. This would give us some additional “quality time” together!

  8. Yes please- but will our excellent Saturday team continue as well? Have really enjoyed their puzzles
