Times Quick Cryptic 330 by Pedro

This one took me 9 minutes but didn’t flow too well at first so I had to keep hopping around the grid to find answers that came more readily to mind so as not to lose momentum. I don’t think there’s anything particularly obscure other than one Anglocentric acronym at 13dn. The button on The Times site refreshed itself shortly after 1:00 but in case of problems with access here’s the link to the puzzle: http://feeds.thetimes.co.uk/timescrossword/20150615/6196/

  1. Slow and unsteady. Felt sure that 13d was FRACAS, but couldn’t think why, since I didn’t know of ACAS. Wasted a chunk of time trying to come up with a 2-4 solution to 15d; finally saw the obvious. ‘expression of religion’ led me to ‘credo/creed’, which led me to nowhere; wouldn’t have thought of one’s faith as an expression of one’s religion but one’s religion itself, but. 8:30.
  2. Just a smidgen over the 10 minute barrier for me. But most of my answers were a combination of buffing and checkers, with post hoc parsing. Funny that I think this one was on the easy side and yet I finished slower than others who thought it was trickier than normal!
  3. Only got a couple of clues on first read through. Found this one quite tough but all parsed. Last in FRACAS and FAITH. Favourite TASK FORCE.
  4. I too dotted around a lot at first. Not sure why I found it so difficult to get started. I rarely do the puzzle in one go as I get frustrated when I can’t see answers immediately. Usually manage to finish after my morning coffee!!
  5. I thought this was on the slightly easier side of average, with only the parsing of 2d and 19ac spoiling a full house. Bish = mistake has somehow managed to pass me by in life, but I should have thought of a gin sling. Invariant
    1. Bish is very dated, I’d have said. Probably from Jeeves & Wooster era, perhaps as late as Billy Bunter days. But it has come up recently, at least in the 15×15, so it came to mind immediately once I’d solved the clue by other means.
  6. 6:22 for me, so about average difficulty I think. I too hadn’t come across “bish” and my last 2 in were FAITH and FRACAS. I liked “that hurts” for OW in 17a and the trendy comedian in 15d. Good puzzle to start the week.

  7. Didn’t find this one very enjoyable as I couldn’t seem to find any flow to it. Having said that I did enjoy 15d. Couldn’t parse 2d and 22a so thanks for the clarification
The 13s were my LOIs, which I almost gave up on.
