  1. Albert at 1ac is becoming a regular these days.
Somewhat held up by stupidly putting “roadway” at 3dn but otherwise straightforward (but enjoyable), with quite a lot of write-ins… can’t see eg 51ac or 20dn holding anyone up for very long

  2. I had to cheat to get 38ac: not a solvable clue if you haven’t heard of the actor. But for some inexplicable reason I had put ACTON at 14ac so it was all in vain anyway.
  3. At 41′, this is probably my Jumbo pb. As Jerry says, a number of write-ins–although not 51ac; 53ac? certainly 43ac. Keriothe must be even younger than I thought not to have heard of Bela Lugosi. Probably doesn’t know Vera Hruba Ralston either, poor fellow. I, on the other hand, didn’t know Palmer in 34ac, or HP in 45ac, but those gaps in my otherwise gappy knowledge weren’t damaging.
    1. Oh, I’m very young, me. Based on a straw poll of the two people in my kitchen who are the same age, not having heard of Mr Lugosi makes me ignorant in matters cinematic. Neither has heard of VHR though, and only one has heard of Dorothy Lamour. But that’s my wife and she is something of an old cinema buff.
  4. BELA LUGOSI,GUILDFORD hardest in this xword, the rest quite easy.(ONG’ARA,NRB)
