Times Cryptic Jumbo No 1309 (Saturday, 17 February 2018): Something For The Weekend… Ish

Well none of you seems to have noticed that this didn’t get posted in a timely manner on Saturday – it’s like nobody cares very much or something, sob!

A shame really as this was a rather pleasant puzzle, lacking much in the way of convolution but a nice workout throughout for the little grey cells, and with no shortage of elegant surfaces to enjoy. My COD award goes to 55ac accordingly, with its very attractive and ever-so-slightly Pythonesque surface reading.

Thanks setter and rest assured we did appreciate all your dedication and hard work.

  1. Well *of course* we noticed, V, but we were much too polite to complain or chase .. just assumed you were busy with other things… I see I got this submission all correct, unlike 1308, so that’s a good start.
I enjoyed this, not too hard, not too easy .. I see ventricles popped up again in today’s cryptic (6 Mar)with a similar but not identical clue. Thud must be happy about that
    1. I was going to remark on the VENTRICLES coincidence – might not have been identical, but near enough! What are the odds I wonder…

  2. Thank you. I did look on Saturday but assumed our blogger had other things to do! So I am grateful to see it now. I enjoyed this one as it was one of four that I finished over the course of that week, which was gratifying and rare! I don’t post often as my most regular comment would be DNF, but this was fun and satisfying. PSB (lurking in Leicestershire)
  3. Yes I noticed it wasn’t there too, but, like others, thought you must be busy… you do have quite a blogging workload compared to some (e.g. me). As a fellow Jumbo blogger, I share your implied concern about whether it is worth the effort given the number of comments, but I don’t care. I’ve found that doing the blog gives me a greater appreciation of the setters art. I see I solved this in 33:19, which makes it at the easy end of the spectrum. I shared the same thoughts about 55a. Nice puzzle. So thanks for the blog V, and thanks to our setter for the entertainment.
  4. I was certainly concerned as my Saturday copy of the Times failed to appear due to the inclement weather which meant I couldn’t check my answers. So I was waiting with bated breath for something to appear on this site.
    Merci tres beaucoup V.
  5. l also noticed absence of this,so l am commenting this late after completing no 1312 just now. Don’t be discouraged Verlaine, we are diehard jumbo buffs.
