Jumbo 1168

Definitely a quicker one. I completed this and the Saturday Times puzzle in around 30 minutes.

I don’t think there is anything to question in this one, nor anything particularly outstanding – a standard Saturday Jumbo.

  1. 38:53, so I found this quite tricky, but my only real query is the definition in 45dn, which I don’t understand.

Edited at 2015-09-26 12:25 pm (UTC)

    1. It is a loose definition, agreed. However, I believe the reputed habit of migrating lemmings falling off cliffs can fit the definition.
      1. I assumed that was what the setter was getting at, but it seems to me that once you’ve jumped off a cliff, judgement of the landing is of very limited importance!
Not to mention the fact that lemmings don’t actually do this…
  2. As I only have one question (it’s usually a few more) I’d agree that this one was easier than most.
In 8 down though, what’s the justification for “refused to fight me?” in the clue?
    1. The whole clue is actually the definition – the soldiers are uprising as they refused to fight the enemy
  3. As you solved this in 30 mins, I hope you’ve entered the Times Crossword Championship. Thanks for blog – I needed to go for help for LAPUTAN which I did not know or had forgotten.
    1. Yes – I have entered the Times Crossword Championship (tomorrow). I have entered for the last few years and have been as placed as high as second, which I managed last year.
