Club Monthly 20168 – September 2014

Well, this took me about the usual (for me) amount of time, ie somewhat in excess of an hour, in two sessions. However I think this one might be a bit easier than some, to judge by the number of correct submissions on the website. I had about two thirds of it done pretty quickly, but then got a bit bogged down in the SW corner.

All up to its usual high standard, though I do have a query over 13dn

  1. 50m, which I think indicates something a bit more gentle than usual.
I spent a while rooting around in Chambers to see if I could explain 13dn. TRAP is any ‘dark fine-grained columnar igneous rock’, and a section is ‘an exposure of rock in which the strata are cut across’. I can’t say I’m convinced.
    1. Nor I. Were I the setter, I think my best chance (apart from admitting an error) would be to argue that “Engine in section overturned,” can in fact have the same meaning as “Engine overturned in section” but leads to a better surface.
