Mephisto 3249 – Paul McKenna

Author   glhPosted on 11th December 2022 at 12:56 AM10 September 2025Categories Mephisto

Greetings barred-grid fans. While I didn’t find this puzzle particularly difficult to complete, there’s some deep dives in Chambers that make writing this up a challenge. I am also a little befuddled about the top … Read more “Mephisto 3249 – Paul McKenna”

Mephisto 3248 – “The staminate and pistillate….

Author   vinyl1Posted on 4th December 2022 at 2:00 AM10 September 2025Categories Mephisto

Tim Moorey puzzles are typically more difficult – he likes to work the unlikely definitions of common words found in Chambers.     This puzzle was no exception.

Mephisto 3247 – Don Manley

Author   glhPosted on 27th November 2022 at 12:11 AM10 September 2025Categories Mephisto

Greetings, barred-grid fans. I got through this offering pretty readily, relying on wordplay and only looking a few answers up in Chambers to make sure they were words. In Mephisto puzzles, definitions (the most direct … Read more “Mephisto 3247 – Don Manley”

Mephisto 3246 – Prince turns over in his grave!

Author   vinyl1Posted on 20th November 2022 at 2:25 AM10 September 2025Categories Mephisto

I didn’t find this too bad, and finished fairly quickly.    I did biff quite a few, and researched them either while solving or when I came to write the blog.

Mephisto 3245 – Tim Moorey

Author   glhPosted on 13th November 2022 at 2:10 AM10 September 2025Categories Mephisto

Greetings barred-grid fans. Don’t remember a lot about solving this last week, as it was through a Sunday morning fog after enjoying myself thoroughly (maybe a little too thoroughly) at a Renaissance Faire on Saturday.  … Read more “Mephisto 3245 – Tim Moorey”

Mephisto 3244 – The last days of The Don

Author   vinyl1Posted on 6th November 2022 at 12:45 AM10 September 2025Categories Mephisto

Yes, this puzzle will be among the last by this setter, and George and I will have to cope with two new setters in the coming year.   I greatly enjoy the clarity and simplicity of Don Manley’s Mephistos, and this one was no exception.

Mephisto 3243 – Paul McKenna

Author   glhPosted on 30th October 2022 at 12:15 AM10 September 2025Categories Mephisto

Greetings barred-grid fans. I thought this was a little easier than the last few Paul McKenna puzzles with fewer tricky wordplay elements.  As usual for Paul McKenna there is a little treat in the top … Read more “Mephisto 3243 – Paul McKenna”

Mephisto 3242 – Tall tails

Author   vinyl1Posted on 23rd October 2022 at 2:39 AM10 September 2025Categories Mephisto

While there were some typical Mephisto clues here, quite a few of them were deceptively simple.     Whenever the solver was expecting something complex, the setter offered something ridiculously simple.

Mephisto 3240 – Dearly bought

Author   vinyl1Posted on 9th October 2022 at 1:52 AM10 September 2025Categories Mephisto

This one was definitely on the tougher side, and I was please to be able to finish after considerable struggle.     I did biff quite a few, and the pun was very helpful.
