Happy New Year to you all!
This was certainly on the tricky side. I don’t have a proper time as my “solvemate” and I did it together, but it was a good puzzle for sharing, with plenty of cunning tricks and misdirection. Thanks setter.

I managed to solve this one readily enough, spread out over several sessions. The second long answer is not used in the USA, and I had to get a number of crossers before concluding what the answer must be.
Straightforward but enjoyable puzzle, with one guessable scientific term for those of an arty bent; and a dish made from the underrated buckwheat.
This was an entertaining jumbo at the easier end of the spectrum.
I found this very much towards the gentler end of the difficulty spectrum
Hello everyone. I try to delay as little as possible between solving and writing up, but failed to blog promptly this time. Now all I have is a note of my time (59 minutes) and the vaguest of recollections. My time suggests a medium level of difficulty, and the wordplay must have seen me through the couple of gaps in my knowledge, otherwise I’d have noted it. So all good – thanks setter!
Apologies to all for the late posting of this.
“Further” fun for big grid fans
A middle-of-the-road Jumbo with the usual smattering of harder clues and less familiar words among the easier clues
I found this relatively gentle, with not too much obscurity or convoluted wordplay
