Off to a racing start but ended in a ditch.

This puzzle had one brilliant clue after another.   Unfortunately, that does not make for easy solving, and I was not really at my best.    The mechanical methods you can use to solve an easy Quickie have to go out the window here.

DNF. I was so absurdly off the wavelength here, there’s very little I can say. I labored to fill in as many squares as I could, but in the end, there were three clues I couldn’t get.

I have to say I didn’t enjoy this as much as our usual Wednesday workouts.

This puzzle contained a fair proportion of very easy clues.
