Quite a few references to ‘surrender’ today, so I take that as an offer of a truce. It was certainly more like a gentlemanly duel than all out war. 

This might be the hardest crossword I have ever attempted to blog.

Chewy enough for a Friday.

Way off the wavelength for this superb puzzle.

A stiff enough test for a Friday, if workaday.

A very interesting, if challenging, puzzle.

A roughly average time for me, but it felt harder while solving.

Solid, and quite difficult.

Too good and complicated for me.

Lovely surface readings and enough tricky wordplay to keep the cogs whirring.
