It is a great pleasure to introduce a puzzle of mid-difficulty for a change!

Competition-level stuff. I hope you solved more of it than I did.

It was such a pity not to finish this fabulous puzzle correctly because I felt outsmarted from the start but chipped away and still fell short.

I’d say this is the ‘perfect Friday crossword’ level.

I found most of this pretty hard.

Brutish, but what a cracker! Lovely misleading surfaces and well-hidden elements, certainly a challenge, and a bit to learn along the way.
