Hello again. This Jumbo I worked through steadily in one session, never racing but never getting stuck either. There were some neat definitions, eg 4dn, 35dn. What did you think? Please, do feel free to … Read more “Times Bank Holiday Cryptic Jumbo 1573, 29 August 2022”

Times Cryptic Jumbo 1572 – 27th August
I found this Jumbo a little trickier than average, with plenty of clever wordplay that rewarded persistence when the pennies dropped. In all, it took me nearly an hour with the last handful of clues taking nearly 10 minutes of that. Thank-you setter. How did you all get on?

In the Philippines there are lovely screens, to protect you from the glare,
In the Malay states there are hats like plates, which the Britishers won’t wear
Times Quick Cryptic No 2219 by Izetti
A bit of a tricky Quick Cryptic from Izetti today, I think. I was slow to get started with very few across clues yielding an answer on a first pass, but the downs got me going. Thank-you Izetti. How did you all get on?

Times 28389 – getting your bearings
My PDF print out done early doors says this was set by a gentleman called Antony Lewis. A new thing, for me, to see a Times setter named, but now I see he has been expunged. Anyway, thank you, Mr Lewis, for a pleasant challenge today.
Times Quick Cryptic 2217 by Oink
Slightly harder than usual from Oink – I’m usually right on his/her wavelength, but not so much today. Nevertheless, all solved within target time, only 6dn holding out until the bitter end.
Times Cryptic 28388
I found this mostly straightforward with no unknown words of meanings apart from the artist at 25ac who’s making his first appearance apparently.
