For those who consult the SNITCH sites, you will notice some changes, as I’ve now directed the main links to my upgraded implementation. Thanks for those who gave feedback on the new site format in recent weeks.
Many of the changes are “beneath the hood” (or should that be “under the bonnet”?) but I have included a few things by request. These include a link from the SNITCH to the Quick SNITCH (and vice versa) and a “Contact” form for people to get in touch. I’ve also changed the Neutrinos page to rank only the non-Neutrino solvers and a button to hide the Neutrinos in the list. This has the effect of showing the top solvers for the last 6 months in order of their average (as calculated by the SNITCH).
The new implementation seems to have been well behaved for a few weeks, but please let me know of any glitches or any other comments, either by commenting below or by using the Contact form.
Hi Starstruck – as ever many thanks for all your work on this.
The revised version doesn’t seem to be working too well with my reported times on the blog.
For example, I’m not showing up here … https://quick.xwdsnitch.link/crosswords/640
But, the time I reported in its associated blog is showing up in my Top 10 list – so it must be picking it up.
My average has also disappeared.
Apologies, ND, I will look into this when I get a chance.
OK, thanks for your patience. I’ve fixed a number of issues with the monthly calculations and the treatment of Blog Solvers. I hope it’s working okay now, but would you please let me know if it isn’t?
Remember to buy Virtual Coffee for Starstruck, he might donate his time but has hosting costs. Simple to do with this link: coff.ee/xwdsnitch. I just bought three.
Thanks, Merlin!
Hi
The site now says that the default browser (Safari) on my iPhone needs to be upgraded. Presumably this only happens if the operating system is upgraded???
Is this a temporary bug?
Thanks
Hi Steve, thanks for reporting this and sorry that it’s not working for you. What iPhone and iOS version are you using? (It works okay for me on iPhone 15 with iOS 18.5.)
Please let me know if you’re on iOS 16.3 or older, as this is not supported. (I may be able to find some way to support the older browser, but it would be good if you’re able to confirm that an upgrade beyond 16.3 is not possible for you.)
Thanks Starstruck
I have a prehistoric iPhone 6S and software version 15.8.4
Steve
I’ve deployed a workaround that’s meant to support older browsers. I’m not easily able to test it (and I’m not sure it’s working), so would love your feedback on whether it fixes the problem for you. Would you mind letting me know?
Thanks. Please try now as I think I’ve fixed the problem for most older browsers, though I’m not sure if iPhone 6S will be supported.
Hi
Thanks Starstruck. It works fine. Well done and many thanks.
Steve
Same problem for me with Firefox – I can’t get onto the SNITCH site which says ‘your browser is not supported’ and ‘please upgrade your browser to continue’.
Not sure what to do as I have tried everything I can think of.
And thanks for reporting this, and sorry that it’s not working for you. It works for me on Firefox 139.0.1 (64-bit), on Windows 11, so would you mind confirming what version of OS and Firefox you are using?
If you’re using a version of Firefox before 107, you might have trouble. If you’re on version 102-107 there’s a config setting (dom.importMaps.enabled in about:config), but if you’re able to upgrade to version 108 or above it should be supported.
Let me know if none of this works, and I will explore options for older browsers.

I am on iPad OS version 16.7.11 and it does not work. Says my browser (safari) needs to be updated. It is the latest update available
Thank you

I’ve noticed that “blog solvers” such as myself don’t appear in the Detailed Solving results any more. Is that an oversight?
Or we might call it a bug 😉
I hope this is now fixed, but please let me know if you’re still having trouble.
Thanks, John.
