Unofficial Times cryptic RTC contest No. 6 – results

After the fireworks of last week, we get back to that hard fact about competitive solving: speed is irrelevant if you make mistakes, so accurate solving at say 10 minutes a puzzle will beat just slightly inaccurate solving at 7 or 8 minutes a puzzle. Solvers with two of the quickest three times for the six puzzles were felled by the same mistake in Friday’s puzzle (ADVISER for ADVISOR at 19D), leaving Tony Sever to take the mini-championship for the week, followed by Sabine and Richard Grafen. Neildubya continues his recent speed gains to take fourth place.

The RTC table has the two slippers-up doing much better but still being beaten by the quickest all-correct solvers. The mysterious fgbp could have been much further up the table with just one more scoring puzzle.

Tony takes the star for his first sub-60 combined time since we started, and I take the spoon for wasting the chance to get my best combined time.

  1. A bit harsh to award yourself the spoon, having come first in 4 out of 6 puzzles, which I believe equals the current record! Actually I know it does, because I just checked, but this took a bit longer than it should have; is there any way on LiveJournal to index blog entries, as (say) daily puzzles, Mephisto, Cryptic RTC results etc, so you can search old entries more easily?
    1. LiveJournal allows tags. I’ve used them to mark all the Crytpic RTC posts, so on the right of our pages you should see a ‘cryptic rtc’ link under tags. If others think it would be useful, we can start using more tags – probably adding: daily, Jumbo, Mephisto, Sunday Times, miscellaneous.
