Unofficial Times cryptic RTC contest No. 1 – results

With consistently good times for the mid-week puzzles that slowed most people down, this was an easy win for Mark Goodliffe who wins the inaugural star.  Yours truly did consistently badly with these three, and awards himself the first spoon, though taking a few crumbs of comfort from running Mark close on a couple of the puzzles.  Otherwise, people did roughly as I might have expected in the mini-championship, with those who have made the final beating those who haven’t.

In the RTC ranking, hilary_seidman scored heavily off five puzzles, and fgbp did well from four. [Monday amendment: RTC rankingsslightly amended – one fgbp time was given for the wrong puzzle.  The finishing order isn’t affected, except that fgbp and the_od change places.]

  1. Congratulations all. I am sorry I missed it, but my broadband has been down since Friday evening until about half an hour ago. I will be there in future weeks, and I will even do the Saturday puzzles which I haven’t been doing recently. I will do yesterday’s just as soon as I finish the Potter book.
  2. Thanks Peter for setting this up – very interesting to see the results. Congratulations to Mark, and to the others who managed to complete all puzzles within sensible times! Saturday was another good one for me, but I won’t be competing this week (or probably next) as I’m on holiday from Tuesday, and will miss next Saturday too. So good luck to all, and unless a week of being in Paris has destroyed my ability to think in English, see you again in a fortnight!
  3. Even though based on this week’s results it seems as though I’ve been dropped by the peloton, I will struggle to get back on. Presumably I didn’t finish completely outside of the time limit.

Hilary: incidentally I’ll be in Paris on Thursday as well on my way to Angers!
