Times Quick Cryptic No 3230 by Loon

There’s lots to enjoy in this third Quick Cryptic from Loon. Some great clues and immaculate surfaces. It took me 6:11 – exactly the same time as I took for Loon’s first in October. My COD goes to the amusing and clever 10A, but I also liked 17A…. and plenty of others. Thank-you Loon! How did you all get on?

Fortnightly Weekend Quick Cryptic.  This time it is Phil’s turn to provide the extra weekend entertainment. You can find the crossword  here.  If you are interested in trying our previous offerings you can find an index to all 149 here.

  1. Late and slow on this one – not sure I’ve done a Loon before. My foi was BRASHER which gave me EMBODY and I was off, but the solves were very different to a Trelawney, say, or yesterday’s Izetti. Good 40 minutes in the end – but I got there. I biffed ADVANCE GUARD at 8d so struggled with crossers until REMIT had to be, and PARTY ensued. CHIPS/CRISP was another holdup, oh dear, I really wasn’t in tune with Loon for a long time. Unlike some, playgoer and playgoing familiar terms and the US state raised a smile, albeit tut tutting was bound to ensue. So a curate’s egg, but I’m certainly up for another Loon challenge: thanks to him and to John

  2. Yet another fail.

26 minute DNF. Put DEATHTRIP for 17ac.

An awful week again. 2 DNFs and nowhere near finishing a 15 x 15.

Where am I going wrong? Why am I so bad at this? I derive no pleasure whatsoever from being so far behind most people who post here.

    1. Hello Bondi,
Welcome to the fray. Please do comment from time to time (the views of ‘learners’ are just as valid as those of the experts). Not necessarily every day, but sufficiently often for us to imagine we sort of know you. I think the TfTT community a civilised, but weird and wacky bunch that helps make the world go round.

  3. 19:51 a little over par for me but it has been a long day.

My initial reaction was that Indianna is in poor taste but I can’t pinpoint why. Maybe because it objectifies a mother as nothing more than a receptacle for a child? I am not sure.
