  1. 26m, which is pretty quick for me, but I read the wordplay for 23ac as [captain who explored], [a town reportedly] and entered COOKABURRA despite knowing perfectly well how to spell it. What’s the term for bunging in from wordplay?
    DWEEB appeared very recently (7 Jan), defined as ‘jerk’. Good to see it defined properly this time.

  2. I would have thought that one had to be of a certain age to remember the mercifully short-lived sack dress; I wasn’t pleased to be reminded of them. I was surprised to discover that the KOOK of KOOKABURRA actually is pronounced like the captain’s name; I’d assumed for all these years that it was [kuk]. As a committed rhotician, I was not best pleased by 31ac, but. LOIs 13ac, 21ac, both clever, although the surface reading of 21 is not as smooth as one might wish.
