Times Cryptic Jumbo 1369: I Bless The Rains Down In Africa

  1. ….by doing it on my phone, simply going through all the clues in order since timing is irrelevant. Completed on the third pass through, and no real problems encountered apart from taking HYENA on trust. I think I’ll stick with solving the Jumbo in that way. Favourite clue was QUOD ERAT DEMONSTRANDUM.
  2. Would never have parsed NADIR in a hundred years though l got it. COD 34d.
    Ong’ara,
    Kenya.
  3. 40′, about as fast as I’ve ever done a Jumbo. Like Ong’ara, I would never have parsed NADIR; but then, one didn’t need to. DNK OCKER; I also didn’t know ROCKE, which was how I tentatively parsed it.
  4. 1:07:32, one of my less slow Jumbo solves. I think my quickest is around 50 minutes. Anyway, put me in the club that didn’t parse NADIR. I also had to use aids for the Roman magistrate, of whose existence I was totally ignorant. I liked MOTHERS TO BE and QED. Thanks setter and V.
