Some information for new readers

It’s been good to see so many of you introducing yourselves recently. If you’ve got the wits to do the Times crossword you can work out plenty by observation and don’t need much help, but this is a quick list of pointers to potentially useful information other than the daily posts about puzzles.

About this blog … is our profile page which gives you information about what we’re trying to do here and tells you a bit about the bloggers.

Tags: blog postings can be labelled with tags (shown under “Tags” in the green stripe on the right) so that people can find ones about a particular topic. As the vast majority of our postings are about the same kind of topic and can be identified from the titles, we don’t bother with tags like “Jumbo” to identify groups of puzzles. But they are used for a few other topics, for which the posts would be tough to find without other help. Of most interest are probably tips&tricks – posts which contain useful information for solvers, and timesxwdclub – posts with information about the Times Crossword Club service.

LiveJournal accounts: it’s entirely up to you whether you get one – we’ve got long-term posters who are still “anonymous” and just identify themselves at the end of each post. If you want to use a little picture and invent a name for yourself, you can get an account for free, at the LiveJournal home page

  1. This seems like a good moment to thank all the experts for helping me along for the last few months. I now enjoy doing (trying to do) the crossword much more, and have a fair chance of finishing.Brilliant idea to start up the blog. I wish I’d found it a long time ago!
