New year, and a new blogger-in-chief. As everyone knows by now, Pete Biddlecombe has become the editor of the Sunday Times Crossword, and has had to step down from the blog. Pete’s said in a previous post that under his guidance change at the ST will be slow and careful, and the same goes for me here. There won’t be any sweeping changes in the way the blog is run (although I’ll entertain any sensible suggestions for improvements). This was the first cryptic crossword blog on the Internet, and has always been the most civilized. Hopefully that will continue to be the case, and I’m looking forward to a seamless transition.
Most of the regulars here know me, some have met me either at the Times Crossword Championships or at Sloggers & Betters meetings, but I’ve decided to post a new pic to introduce myself properly. Tux the Linux Penguin is cute, but doesn’t have the necessary gravitas for such a distinguished position. Me with a Westie on my head, on the other hand… (his name’s Toby, by the way)
And thank you for stepping in Pete’s shoes. I wouldn’t know how to satisfy my addiction without this blog.
Many thanks to Andy for taking over from Peter. I’m sure he’ll do an admirable job.
It would be asking a lot for PB to make much impact on the ST as yet – they work a long way in advance
Hopefully we’ll cross paths again (now that I’m a faithful linux acolyte, we’ll no longer talk at cross-purpose! 🙂
Best wishes to you.
As for the new pic, I hope you wouldn’t mind if I tell you that I noticed Toby first.

I like Peter’s scheme of having each day covered by alternating bloggers, since it gives a natural substitute in case of unavailability. Whether we could get enough high-quality and reliable bloggers for that, I cannot say.
Of course, if I had more free time, I would prefer to blog every week, but I suppose it might become tedious after a while.
