Mephisto 2875 – Tim Moorey

Hmmm – well my greatest challenge here was the number of names of people, living or dead (and one where if you looked at a recent photograph, you’d be hard pressed to tell) that were used as wordplay elements and as answers – most of them have their own websites.

I see that one of the other regular Mephisto setters has a crossword in Latin in the Times this weekend. I have tried crosswords in French and Spanish but I don’t think I’d fare to well in a Latin crossword unless AMAMUS was clued as “A mother mouse”.

Nice to see Tim Moorey giving a shout out to my adopted state at 23 across!

Away we go…

  1. Not particularly difficult but an enjoyable puzzle I thought

As to crosswords in Latin – non pro me gratias

  2. This wasn’t too bad but I needed a couple of goes at it, and I had to cheat to get 1ac where I got fixated on ‘dutch’ and struggled with chance = perhaps.
I will remember the expression at 23ac for the next time I’m in NC, which will be early next month.
