Mephisto 2844 by Don Manley – Minn er a hálfpottur

Posted on Categories Mephisto
By far the easiest Mephisto I’ve done for quite some time – mostly simple constructions with signposted definitions. Perhaps Don was intent upon helping our friends in Iceland who celebrated Beer Day on 1st March when the puzzle appeared.

  1. …for the blog and for drawing our attention to this one. I had been rather lazy recently and neglected the Mephisto but will now try to solve more regularly again.

I thought SCART was an opportunity missed – any clue involving a cormorant has to be an opportunity for a bit of innocent ribaldry!

At 7dn the name MELANIE derives from the Greek word for “black” – I suppose it’s not really essential but I found it helpful.

    1. Hi Derek – glad you enjoyed the puzzle

As to MELANIE you may have gathered by now that this classics stuff is all greek to me

      1. I’m no classicist and never learnt Greek – I just find the etymology of words and names interesting.
