  1. Many thanks for the analysis. A couple of queries if I may?

19 ac: I think it’s an adjectival form of try = choice (per Chambers). And the Jersey – is it in the US or the CI, do you know?
6 d: agree with you that Conservative = Unionist but my Chambers only has it under Union (1), second section Unionism. I don’t have a definition number 3. My Ch is 12th edition.
    20 d: I thought the parsing might be sheep = rams + breed = tam(e)?
26 d: I think it’s the first letters of very and original (as indicated by cover) + a B(ritish)?

Again – many thanks for your time!

    1. Sorry I’m slow in getting back to comments, hell of a week. I’m sometimes wrong in my parsing, so let’s see here…

In 19 I didn’t think of the adjective, I guess it works either way. That definition of TRYST in Chambers is given as “primarily Scot” so it’s most likely CI.

I should have been clearer on UNIONIST – it’s the third definition given for UNIONIST, not definition number 3 of UNION. When I’m typing I often use the electronic version of Chambers that has some extra numbering

I thought of TAM(e) but couldn’t justify it from the Chambers definition.

26 is an all-in-one, the wordplay is also the definition, so you need the first letter of “cover” to be part of the wordplay.
