  1. Agree it was on the easier side of Mephisto, the only thing I had to check in the dictionary was the first letter of 14 across. Very clear wordplay to get the unusual words, so if you trust your wordplay, you’re well on your way.

    I came here hoping for an explanation of GAD, having searched in vain for it in Chambers. Now I’ve googled it and I feel a bit silly!
