Mephisto 2695 – Tim Moorey

Hmmm – well since LiveJournal now lets us do posts in advance, let’s try it out. Greetings from the past with the blog of Mephisto 2695. A crossword where I had one massive headsmack moment, as I couldn’t figure out 24 for a long time until I realised it was an Azed competition clue (I entered a clue, but it didn’t get anything). Anyhoo I was pretty well on Tim Moorey’s wavelength here, and a lot of answers went in from wordplay with a little question mark but I think they’re all in place now

Away we go!

Across
1 ABS RE: hidden, reversed
6 DAWNER: RED(refuse) reversed with AWN(verb form of AWNING) inside
11 PARIS,CHAN(c)E

  1. Ah, so you can! .. I hadn’t realised you could post entries in advance in Livejournal now, thanks for mentioning it George. I’ll give it a try
  2. I thought this was reasonably difficult in comparison with recent puzzles with a host of quality clues.

I was lucky with 24A because I’d also entered a clue for it in the AZED competition and had looked through all the types of apple searching for inspiration and “pick a Baldwin” chimed with me immediately as an apple and from there to the answer was a short route

I must try this posting in advance – could be useful

    1. I need to update George v The Azed Clueing Competition but I saw that both yours and Tim’s clues got HC mentions (Jim’s got 10 HCs, I have 3 HCs and a VHC), and mine got nothing for APPLE-KNOCKER.
