Another well crafted puzzle of middling difficulty. My only query is at 25D UNETH where I suspect an indirect anagram of “the” has been used.
On the subject of Ximenean rules we can’t let today pass without adding our congratulations to Jonathan Crowther (AZED) on the publication of his 2,000th puzzle. I remember doing puzzle number 1 in March 1972 following the death of Ximenes and have completed most of the subsequent ones (although when I was working not always in the week that they appeared!). His consistently high standard and strict adherence to Ximenean rules has brought considerable pleasure to many.
