LJ intrusion

Posted on Categories Announcement
Today when viewing my QC blog I am seeing this between the end of the blog itself and the first comment. It’s very annoying. Is everyone else seeing it too? Interestingly I don’t see it on Ulaca’s 15×15 blog when viewed on my PC but it’s there on my tablet.

  1. P.S. And after posting this I see the damned thing has inserted itself here too!
  2. No, I don’t get any of that. Windows 10 on a desktop.

But when I clicked on ‘3 comments’ I got ‘RECENT POSTS FROM THIS COMMUNITY and 6 posts; the below gives an idea of what I got:

    1. Thanks Will, but I think that’s exactly what I’m seeing as illustrated in the image I posted at the start of this thread. It’s all very confusing and I’m really mad about this intrusion in something that has worked perfectly well for years.
  3. I’ve been getting these for a few weeks on both the laptop and my tablet. A bit of an intrusion, although when I wanted to find a recent blog, it was quicker than scrolling down. Only works for the last few though. Still not as yucky as some of the ads the algorithms send me, just because I’m not quite as young as I used to be (bunions and poor posture now, neither of which trouble me)! Actually, Jack, when I last moaned about the ads, you gave me some advice on how to manage them without paying for the full package, which I forgot to follow up at the time – would you mind explaining again, please?

On edit: Don’t worry – I’ve used my brain and had a quick look through my messages on LJ, and have found the relevant advice. I’ll follow up. thanks 😀

    1. I may have seen them on my tablet before today but everything looks a bit different there so I didn’t pay much attention. But my PC is my principal source of access to websites generally and I have everything set up the way I want it as far as possible, so anything that disrupts this on a site I spend so much time on feels like a violation of my home territory.
      1. Most ad-blocking extensions allow you to zap individual sections on a page. I use uBlock Origin in Firefox and getting rid of this intrusion was really easy:

        1. Right-click anywhere on the page and select ‘Block element…’
        2. Click the ‘Pick’ button and move the mouse pointer to the top of the new section, ensuring the whole section is highlighted and click to lock in the selection.
        3. Click the ‘Create’ button to finish the task.

The procedure may vary slightly with different browser/ad-block combinations, but you should be able to figure it out.

    1. Thanks for your input. Actually this evening I found a means of removing the 6 links as shown in my image above – at least I thought I had. They have gone when viewed on my PC but still present on my tablet. It’s very odd. I’m going to monitor the situation over the next few days and maybe consult with other bloggers to see if I can make sense of it.
  4. Spooky or glitchy, it seems to happen increasingly across my devices: laptop, smartphone and (less so) smart tv. Part paranoia, part normal digital dysfunction and part user error but part something else?
