Jumbo 958

As this is my first blog of 2012 can I take the opportunity to wish all solvers and my fellow bloggers a Happy New Year.  If this blog is a little late I apologise, but I was not sure of the timings over the holiday period. However the solution is published today so I must be safe to post this.

This Jumbo was a fair workout to get the brain moving on Boxing Day, even if the body did not get much of a workout (I did walk to the paper shop to buy the newspaper).

Nothing contentious in the clues, but some uncommon words and long anagrams to provide a challenge.

  1. And Happy New Year to you, and thanks for explaining a number of clues that I ‘solved’ without understanding, like 6d. On 25d: is insolence titillating?
    1. On 25D I would consider “saucy” to be mildly titillating and my copy of Chambers agrees, but does not have the provocative meaning of “saucebox”.
