  1. I also found this easy for a Jumbo, except for 6dn, which took me about half an hour on its own. Eventually it occurred to me that the spirit might be “rum” at the end and then I was able to construct the rest, although I didn’t believe it as it went in and googled it before submitting.
Any temptation to complain about the obscurity of it vanished when I discovered what it meant: you couldn’t really put PONS ASINORUM in a crossword a then make the clue easy!
  2. 24:04 for me. I’m slightly baffled that you reckon your 30 minutes is one of your faster times, Simon, as I had you down as one of the fast brigade!

PONS ASINORUM (remembered from schooldays) went straight in.

    1. Often I don’t fully concentrate on the Jumbo – if the football is on for example I try and multi-task, although my wife says that men can’t.

I was pleaed with around 30 mins, but the following week was much quicker – probably nearer 20 mins, which was probably my best.

I need to go back to doing the daily ones on paper rather than online to practice for Finals day – nearly typed Cheltenham there – hope to see you then.

      1. I normally solve online but I’ve taken to doing the Saturday 15×15 and Jumbo on paper one after the other as practice.

        See you in Wapping.
