Jumbo 1380

I found this one marginally easier than average though it did contain a couple of words seldom seen in Crosswordland.

FOI 1A, LOI 13A.

Finally a job advert – if anyone would be interested in taking over my blogging slots (Jumbo cryptics with numbers ending in 0 or 5) then please let Jonathan or me know. Any questions, either message me or ask in the comments below.

  1. Can’t think of much to say apart from, embarrassingly, nho imide.. seemed likely though

42dn: lines not lies, a Freudian slip if ever I saw one ..

  2. LOI IMIDE. The last five or so jumbi have been rather gentle, including the current one. Waiting for a stinker.
    Ong’ara,
    Kenya.
  3. Just over 31 minutes for me, so yes, very gentle, but… failed to revisit an unparsed COVERT at 40A, so 1 wrong. Grr. I liked RIPOSTED and SIT ON ONES HANDS.
  4. 27:30. Medium difficulty this, with just a smattering of unknowns. I was mystified by the definition at 34ac: coming off the gold standard is not a process of DEMONETISATION.
  5. I’d doubts about that one too, when solving, but dicts support it. Good puzzle, which I found harder than most here. Also wondered about FOREGO for manage without, but again dicts support it. I’ve a feeling that FORGO (go without) and FOREGO (to go before) were at one time seen as quite distinct but that usage might have changed this. Many thanks to setter and blogger.
