  1. I biffed a few, including my LOI, AVOCATION. I made a note about the O and N in 23ac; I distinctly remember, in one of my first attempts at the clue contest, trying to delete H and M by something like ‘the Queen leaves’ or whatever, and being told by the judge that that was NOT done. I think I’ve seen an example or two like this, but no more. I liked 37ac, 15d, and 34D.
