As snow was general over England just the other day, I was reminded that it’s time to put the Turkey in and see what comes out. For anyone new to Times for the Times, the Christmas Turkey is our annual attempt at setting a Times-ish puzzle of our own, with each clue set by a single volunteer.
In previous years it’s been first come, first served but that has proved a bit tricky at times, and it’s unfair on those who don’t see the announcement immediately. So this year I’m just going to wait and see how many people want in. If we’re very oversubscribed then I may invite the vicar over to draw names out of a hat. I just hope he’s not still smarting after last year’s incident with the cranberry sauce.
This year we have an injection of professionalism, TLS setter and now regular TfTT contributor (and breakfast enthusiast) Myrtilus having kindly agreed to devise a grid. Not only has he got a festive theme into it, but he’s also managed to squeeze in a whopping 32 words.
If you would like to try your hand at setting a clue for this year’s puzzle, drop me a line at … entry now closed.
So, sign up and let’s see what we can come up with.
Cheers

I have (hopefully) just emailed you.
Do I have to email you, Sotira?
Is your mailbox broken? Tried to mail you at the address above, it was rejected with “unknown user.”

The draw seems like a good idea but we might consider favouring those who haven’t had a go before?

I’d love to have a bash at be at the biffing end rather than biffed!
All the best,
