Christmas Day Puzzles

Seeing a comment in today’s QC discussion made me realise that perhaps some TfTT contributors may not be aware that the 15×15 and Quick Cryptic puzzles will be available on Christmas Day as usual on the Times site, and this may be a something of lifeline for  those forced to spend the day on their own or more quietly than they normally would. Hopefully the blogs will be up early in the day so that discussions can take place here as normal.

  1. Not only that, there will be two sets of bank holiday puzzles too, one on the Bank Holiday next Monday, and one on New Year’s Day. As well as the extra puzzles for this Saturday and next Saturday. And the ST cryptic for this Sunday will be a jumbo-sized Xmas Special, most likely … puzzletastic!

      I never imagined this would be an issue.

      1. The NY Times international ed isn’t published on Christmas Day; I had to eat my breakfast without a crossword.
  6. There are no newspapers distributed in the UK on Christmas Day and afaik never have been. Nothing to do with Covid.
    1. I didn’t think it would have anything to do with Covid, in any case.
      Never saw—or don’t remember seeing!—any mention here of this matter before.
      1. The older hands would know to expect the puzzles online but there are a lot of newcomers around these days, particularly QC contributors, so I posted a special reminder so they wouldn’t lose out.
        1. Seems to me there has been a marked increase in comments on the QCs over just the past several months. Maybe people who otherwise wouldn’t try them have had more time on their hands lately, for some reason…

          Without my planning it that way—I’m just in the habit of doing the most difficult tasks first—I find that I set most of them aside until one speedy session on the weekend.

            1. I can remember you commenting worriedly–must be at least 3 years ago, probably more–about the scarcity of comments on the QC.
