Reasonably straightforward this, with some clever clues but also some rather poor surfaces. What did you think?

Quite a gentle Jumbo I thought with little to frighten the horses.

I thought this was an excellent puzzle, full of invention and wit and plenty of the sort of clever definitions that set Times cryptics apart from other puzzles…

I thought this Jumbo a little harder than usual, with the left-hand side harder than the right.

I found this fairly easy, solving Jimbo-style top to bottom, left to right…

Hello all, and Happy New Year. I like to blog when the puzzle is fresh in my mind (which should mean doing the write up early but in practice means leaving the solve until the last minute too).  Not something I managed with this one – and with all the fun and games on Boxing Day, I don’t think the puzzle was fresh in my mind even at the time!  All I remember is that I found it rather tricky and did look up one or two things.  Had to work quite hard to parse some of it a second time around as well.  My COD is 46d, which really tickled me.  Thanks setter.

Solved in  one session I found this fairly easy.
