I found this Jumbo quite a gentle giant without too many unknowns or wordplay that had me scratching my head, finishing in about 32 1/2 minutes. Several appreciative ticks on my copy. COD to 31A for the entertaining surface and definition, but I liked 36D too. How did you all get on?

Times Quick Cryptic No 2189 by Alconiere
Today we have an entertaining Quick Cryptic from Alconiere. As I always do with his puzzles, I found it slightly on the tricky side, taking 6:15 which is a bit longer than average for me. Some lovely clues – I particularly liked 9A, 13A, 6D and, my COD, 15D. Furthermore, we have a timely Nina.

Times Cryptic Jumbo 1562 – 18th June
I thought this was an excellent fun Jumbo with lots of quirky definitions and ingenious wordplay. Not too hard, with plenty of easier clues to get you going, but a few chewier bits. It took me 42:45 – close to an average time for a Jumbo for me, so the difficulty was just right. It’s had to pick a favourite clue, but I liked 17A, 43A, 48A, 51A , 13D, 55D and 56D among others. Thank-you setter! How did you all get on?

Today we a treated to a Quick Crossword by Izetti. It’s a little out of the ordinary… see the explanation at the end of the blog for how and why. On the tricky side, I think, including both a word and a couple of meanings that were new to me and some clever wordplay. It took me 7:40. All perfectly fair, though, and entertaining as ever. Thank-you Izetti, and congratulations! How did you all get on?

Times Quick Cryptic No 2159 by Rongo
This was my first Rongo Quick Cryptic to blog since December 2019. Nothing too difficult, I think, although one definition is a bit tricky, and I finished in a below average time of just under 5 minutes. I liked the underground prison best. Thank-you Rongo! How did you all get on?
