Reminder

Just a gentle reminder to Sunday bloggers that last week’s puzzles shouldn’t be blogged until next weekend, and that the Christmas Day puzzles will be online-only and won’t have prizes, so can be blogged on the day if you feel like it 😉

Have a great Christmas everybody!

  1. I note that in addition to David Mclean’s Sunday puzzle we have three extra ST cryptics from the archives by Tim Moorey (2011), Jeff Pearce (2012) and Dean Mayer (2013).

Assuming that Nick Novice, who’s on blogging duty, won’t have time to cover all of these I’m volunteering myself to blog the one by Dean Mayer as I’ve never had the opportunity to do one of his before. The other two are presumably up for grabs but to avoid duplication of effort if you want to take one of them on, please stake your claim here. If there are no takers before Tuesday I shall track down the original TftT blogs for the remaining puzzles and post links to them here, but it’d be more fun if we can treat them as new ones.

If I’m treading on anyone’s toes with this initiative please let me know, but I haven’t seen anything posted about it previously.

    Happy Christmas to all!

    1. I was just intending to post links to the original blogs (not wishing to place an unnecessary burden on anyone at this time of year), but more than happy for you to treat them as new. I’m pretty sure I won’t remember a single clue, even though I know I solved all of them at the time. Personally I’ll be too busy tomorrow and Monday, and back to work Tuesday, so I’m afraid I won’t be volunteering to do a blog. PB asked me to keep it under my hat until today, which is why there were no advance tip-offs.
    2. Merry Christmas Jack – just seen this having not switched on my computer for the last five days (marvellous!) Just to ensure no confusion, Sunday 25th was Keriothe’s turn – I’m blogging the big grid from Dean that appeared on the 18th (and which is currently under embargo…)

      Best wishes
      Nick

  2. Nice idea, having a selection. Looking forward to solving them (excuse to get away from the festivities for a while).

    Merry Christmas to all

  3. I’ve just completed today’s cryptic – lots of fun. 68 mins but a lot of that time was spent watching the final Morse which was just on ITV3. We have our main Christmas doings on the 24th so I’m currently chilling in the wee small hours. 🙂

    Charm pithy asps, everybody!

    1. At a rough guess that puzzle was from over 70 years ago, about 6 decades before we started blogging! Where did you find it? The only one we have from that era was the puzzle for 11th Dec 1938, which was published in the issue marking the centenary of the crossword. There’s no puzzle number mentioned though, just the date. Seems way too early for 1029 though.

Pete Biddlecombe may have access to the whole archive. I’ll ask him, but I can’t promise anything.
