Mephisto 3273 – Tim Moorey

Author   glhPosted on 28th May 2023 at 12:16 AM10 September 2025Categories Mephisto

Greetings, barred-grid fans. Ready for some more deep dives into Mephisto? Tim Moorey presented a fun puzzle with some unlikely terms, fortunately the precise wordplay gives a way in to the weirdest entries.  Fewer pop … Read more “Mephisto 3273 – Tim Moorey”

Mepisto 3272 – “With razor blades and hand grenades….”

Author   vinyl1Posted on 21st May 2023 at 3:12 AM10 September 2025Categories Mephisto

I didn’t find this too bad, but made very slow progress for a while.   I plodded on from ten until midnight, finishing a few bits here and there.

Mephisto 3271 – Robert Teuton

Author   glhPosted on 14th May 2023 at 1:13 AM10 September 2025Categories Mephisto

Greetings, barred-grid fans. I found this one tricky, and definitely a few notches up from the first few Robert Teuton puzzles.  If you trust the wordplay, most of the unusual terms are clear. In Mephisto … Read more “Mephisto 3271 – Robert Teuton”

Mephisto 3270 – The terminal puzzle?

Author   vinyl1Posted on 7th May 2023 at 1:14 AM10 September 2025Categories Mephisto

I didn’t have much difficulty with this one, although the pun was even more excruciating than usual.     There are a few obscure literals that you have to check in Chambers, but this is scarcely a novelty in Mephisto.

Mephisto 3269 – Tim Moorey

Author   glhPosted on 30th April 2023 at 12:52 AM10 September 2025Categories Mephisto

Greetings, barred-grid fans. Last Sunday was a busy day for me and I didn’t get around to solving this until Friday late night.  Maybe it was solving Mephisto under different circumstances (wine and cheese instead … Read more “Mephisto 3269 – Tim Moorey”

Mephisto 3268 – Like Peter, say?

Author   vinyl1Posted on 23rd April 2023 at 1:21 AM10 September 2025Categories Mephisto

While for the previous Mephisto I barely needed to touch Chambers, this John Grimshaw production will require considerable checking for most solvers.  I had to make a number of guesses, most of which turned out to be correct.

Mephisto 3267 – Robert Teuton

Author   glhPosted on 16th April 2023 at 1:00 AM10 September 2025Categories Mephisto

Greetings, barred-grid fans! This was a pleasant diversion on a wet and miserable Sunday morning for me.  Strangely enough, there were fewer unknown words in this grid than in the daily puzzle I blogged on … Read more “Mephisto 3267 – Robert Teuton”

Mephisto 3266 – That you, Jethro?

Author   vinyl1Posted on 9th April 2023 at 1:40 AM10 September 2025Categories Mephisto

I didn’t find this one that difficult, although I was a little slow getting started, and had to put off a the left side until the next day.     The pun didn’t help me much, and I ended up having to push through the left from the bottom to the top.

Mephisto 3265 – Tim Moorey

Author   glhPosted on 2nd April 2023 at 1:51 AM10 September 2025Categories Mephisto

Greetings, barred-grid fans. I remember this being a pretty breezy solve, but I was not sure of some of the wordplay, hopefully a second visit to the clues will sort everything out. In Mephisto puzzles, … Read more “Mephisto 3265 – Tim Moorey”

Mephisto 3264 – ….the cats will play!

Author   vinyl1Posted on 26th March 2023 at 2:09 AM10 September 2025Categories Mephisto

This one was not too bad, although I gave up after an hour and went to bed.   I finished it off pretty quickly the next morning.
