To me this seemed a bit trickier than normal when solving at the time, although when writing up the blog I am not sure why. Probably just that some of the definitions were a bit more obscure, or it may be that I am a bit out of practice as I am not solving every day at the moment.

I did not record a time but probably nearer 45 minutes.

I’d been wondering where my one error was, and went painstakingly through your blog to find no error; so I went to the Club page and found that evidently I’d failed to type the penultimate A in SCANDINAVIA. I guess that’s a relief. I was sure that there was an error at 51d, since the duck is a smew not a smee; or so I thought (Smee, of course, is Capt. Hook’s mate). ‘smee’ isn’t in my SOED, but I gather that it is in Chambers or some other dictionary I don’t have. Fortunately, there was no question that it had to be an E. I think the thing with PUSH is that the clue would work with ‘Dutch supporters/English supporters/Spanish supporters’.
  3. I think GOER refers to ‘feasible proposal’, not just ‘feasible’.

  6. Some very nice stuff here, notably TEAMWORK, MOVIEGOER and CLAMBAKE.

    My take on 30d is that the setter didn’t want to offend Spaniards, so spread the aggro about with Dutch and English.
