Mephisto 2894 by Paul McKenna – Where Were The Choclates and Roses

Thank goodness I found this a bit tougher than the last three puzzles – actually had to work at some of the clues. I don’t recall seeing the software device in a puzzle before but I well remember the discussions about it – from both a manufacturer’s and user’s perspective.

The puzzle appeared on Valentine’s Day but I can’t see a theme

  1. I certainly found this pretty hard: it required a few separate attempts. Thanks for explaining the rather tricksy wordplay in 17dn which was beyond me.
  2. Not many crossings out on my print-out, so I was lucky with my guesses on this one.

Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but it seems to be another quirky Paul McKenna first row: GOPHER G HOLED

  3. I biffed a bit in this one, didn’t work out the wordplay for CODPIECE or GREASE MONKEY. LARK and WINE were very crafty clues
