Jumbo 968

I got through this one fairly steadily, and only needed to check a couple afterwards. I am guessing 52D will be unfamilar to most.

When blogging, I try to leave out the explanations of the clues that I believe most people shoudl find straightforward, but in this I find there is something of interest or to explain in almost all of them, so I apologise if this seems like overkill. If I have omitted one that you would like explaining please let me know.

  1. A fairly quick, for me, 66′, with 6d, of all things, my LOI. Thanks for explaining 35d, a clue whose cleverness seems wasted, given ‘gateaux … region’; I was wondering where the cryptic part was. There were a number of CODworthy clues, I thought: 22ac, 2d, 8d, 10d inter alia.
  2. 20:48 for me – slightly annoyed that I didn’t manage to break 20 minutes, but probably a 23ac (or two, or three) held me up.

TORSK rang a vague bell from somewhere – probably another crossword.

    Nice puzzle.
